Not a Sewing Winner
I tried a pattern for a relaxed Raglan Dress about 2 years ago. It did not work out at all. I never wore the outfit and it was a complete toss out of a dress. I thought I would try the same pattern again now that I have supposedly increased my sewing skills and knowledge.
Nope, still cannot master this pattern. I did learn some things from the second go round which might help in my sewing growth journey.
First, I am not sure I would like it even if I could get the neckline and button placket to work and look semi-normal. You have to insert elastic to make the waist and that style really does not do much for me when I wear items with that design detail. Frankly I have yet to wear or sew romper that looks good on my body type.
I used some heavier rib knit that I got on clearance with the express purpose of using to try out a pattern or two. The main issue I had with both versions I tried of this pattern was the neckline. It just seems so large and never lays correctly.
In addition, I need to shorten the placket portion. I don’t think the placket is supposed to begin at my belly button. Plackets such as you see on a henley style shirt is something I do need to practice to master in my sewing.
I swear I cut out the back pieces so they matched but that did not continue when I sewed the backs together.
If I made this pattern I would not pick a striped fabric. It is hard enough to sew this pattern without having to do stripe matching. I learned some things and now am ready to move on to maybe a keeper project this week.
