Retirement Travel

As I mentioned yesterday my DH recently retired from his last job. He decided to treat the family to a short weekend escape to celebrate. I made the shirts, we packed up the car, grabbed our DD and took off for San Diego, CA. This past week was my Spring Break from school so the timing was perfect.

For many years when our DD was much younger we went to San Diego for Spring Break every year. This trip we made many new memories but also revisited favorite spots from years past.

We upscaled our accommodations on the trip. We are not huge Parrot Heads, but do enjoy a Jimmy Buffet song or two. We booked a stay at the Margaritaville in the Gaslamp Quarter. It turned out to be about 2 blocks from Petco Park where the Padres play (no ball games since it is still Spring training). A lovely neighborhood to walk around and explore that is centrally located.

The room and all the service was top notch and if you can afford the splurge I highly recommend the Hotel brand (there are many more Margaritaville properties than the one in San Diego).

One day we took the ferry out to Coronado to dip our feet in the ocean at the beach.

The next day we went to the San Diego Zoo. We used to take our DD here on every trip. We totally did the entire zoo which was a big change. When she was younger we only lasted a few hours and only saw a few exhibits. Now that she is a young adult she wanted to see everything and had the stamina to do so!

It is a delightful place filled yes with wildlife but also beautiful botanical spots. We had a wonderful family trip.
