Another Diana Dress

After the debacle of the pants from last week I needed an easy sew that I knew would be successful. I completed my 3rd Ellie & Mac Diana dress.

On this version I went with the square neckline and a ruched front. I don't think I am a big fan of the square neckline. I will need to work on the fitting of a square neckline. It gapped terribly and so I decided to add a little ruching to the front. That did help, but it still is a little gappy in the front.

The fabric is rib knit from Hobby Lobby in 3 different colors.

When the dress is hanging the true colors of the layers show better than in the first picture. I made 3/4 length sleeves. This should be a perfect Fall dress with a little bit longer sleeve. It has not yet been cool enough to wear, but I am sure this dress will get a lot of wear. I added pockets in the second layer. Adding pockets to your own sewing makes is one of the best delights of making your own clothes. Ready to wear clothing manufacturers find pockets in women's clothes too expensive to add, so they are often just left out completely. We all need the pockets in our clothes. NPR a few weeks ago had a short interview with an author who has written a history of pockets. I think I will be looking for her book to read.
