Cleaning & Canning

Okay you probably should not do these two activities at the same time. I have been collected bits of ham roasts in the freezer and decided yesterday was a good day for stock making. I put the remains of the Christmas ham in the crockpot with onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms and bay leaves. I left it alone for about 8 hours.

This morning I peeled off the layer of fat left over from cooling down the stock. You do have to reheat the stock. This works out perfectly because I get the pressure canning going and sterilize the jars inside the canner.

Here the jars are in the pressure canning just before I seal the lid. I was able to can 4 1/2 pints of ham stock. I use it mostly when making rice and it adds a delicious flavor.

The cleaning part is a miracle tool I just bought. Our house contains a dog and cat. We have hair which just never seems to all get cleaned up no matter how often I vacuum. The uproot tool was on a facebook ad. I thought how good can it be. I looked it up on Amazon and the reviews were majority positive. I figured if it did not work I could always return it for a refund.

Well the advertisement was correct. It really works. You do need to read the directions (the few negative reviews seemed like the buyer did not read the description very well). We live in a 2 story house and the stairs are carpeted. They are always so difficult to keep clean, not any more. I must add using the tool is grossly satisfying. You are amazed at how much hair you pull out of your carpets and also disgusted at the same time.
