CopyCat Recipes

If you google a recipe from your favorite chain restaurant you are sure to find a copycat recipe that is easily made at home. These recipes are usually half the price and you can cater to any dietary restrictions you might face.

When my DD was very young she loved KFC fried chicken. She also loved the coleslaw (which I learned to make a copycat recipe of quite a few years ago). It is delicious but oh my goodness the service at the restaurant was not (the service was horrible even before the pandemic). Eventually, she outgrew her fried chicken phase, but luckily not the coleslaw (which we have quite regularly). About once a year I will try again to return to KFC (which actually in my area are very hard to find).

One item we actually never tried because I think it was introduced after we stopped trying to get food there was the bowls. A recipe for a KFC bowl appeared on a feed the other day. I checked out the link and thought well we like all the ingredients so I might as well give it a try.

I made my own mashed potatoes. Spread them in a pan and poured frozen corn over the top.

I had some chicken nuggets in the freezer and I baked them as directed in the recipe (not fully cooked). I cut up the nuggets and placed them on top. I added the cheese and baked as directed.

The gravy I made from scratch using chicken stock I had canned earlier in the year. The gravy was served on the side so each person could add as little or much as desired. It turned out very tasty and was gobbled up!
