Dublin Dress

Styla Patterns released a beautiful knit dress pattern quite a while ago. It has taken me more than a minute to work up my version. The pattern is called Dublin. I made the ruffled hem short sleeved version. Fabric was purchased at Hobby Lobby in the Spring and is a Double Brushed Poly (DBP) in a very light blue colorway.

The pattern begins with making the sleeves since there is elastic involved.

I added elastic to both the top and bottom of the sleeves since I was making the short sleeves.

The top is lined. I did not have enough of my main fabric to cut the linings so used a white knit in my collection. After attaching the sleeves I finished the lined bodice.

This is actually the majority of the "hard" work on this pattern. Of course I added pockets to the skirt. I did add a new sewing skill, gathering with my serger.

What a great skill - it made gathering the skirt and ruffle so much easier. Now I will not be shying away from gathering in a pattern.

This is the back of the dress. The fabric drapes beautifully and is so soft to the touch and to wear.

When I wear the dress the folds of the DBP all fall away. DBP and my dress form are not really good friends, they like to stick together like glue and make strange folds in the fabric. I am very happy with this make. It crosses off at least one of my goals for the month.
