Finished Kick Pleat Skirt

I followed the Youtube tutorial from 5 out of 4 Patterns Sewing School for making a kick pleat and it was excellent.

Just look at that darling little kick pleat. I ended up taking about 6 inches of material off of the back of the skirt. If I hadn't already done such a great job installing the front pockets I should have cut some off of the sides. Each sewing project is an opportunity to learn a new skill. I might be calling this the kick pleat skirt.

The back seam mostly matches. The front and side seams do match. I took a picture of the front but due to my fantastic photography skills (insert eyeroll here) the picture was so fuzzy as to be unusable.

It is close enough for me to declare it a win. I think this skirt might work better in a knit fabric and probably a wider waistband.

I am not sold on how nice a gathered skirt looks on me. I need a much more gentle gather which might occur if I cut the actual correct size. It seems like there is quite a bit of bulk around the waist. But then again this is a heavier, thicker fabric. I really do like the fabric. I went back to Hobby Lobby to see if they had anymore but it was all gone.

It will be a nice warm skirt for the winter and will look cute with the right sweater and boots. I am happy I was able to salvage the project by adding the kick pleat.
