First Project Bag
All the knitters I watch on youtube have project bags. I was experiencing serious project bag envy. When I looked up the cost of project bags on etsy and about fell off my chair. I also noticed some that to me did not seem like something I would like. I saw quite a few with zippers. One rule I have it to try not to get yarn anywhere near a zipper. At least in my hands this leads to yarn getting caught in a zipper and sometimes naughty words escaping out into the universe.
I thought about the bag patterns I currently own. Nope, none looked they would work for my purposes. Besides I might have needed a new pattern (stop smirking gentle reader). I looked for patterns on etsy and found a sweet little shop called incompletestitches. They had a pattern for something they called an Apex pouch. It could be made in 2 different sizes with 2 different closures. I bought the PDF pattern. Now to offset the cost of the pattern I used all scraps in my collection for the tester version. I feel very virtuous for making the sacrifice and not buying any new fabric (that will happen later you know!). In fact you might recognize at least one of the fabrics.
Yes, it is the Santa flamingos. I am truly out of this fabric (except for the small pieces I will use in a my quilt blocks). There is no more of the lovely perfect match green either. I did not quite have enough fabric to make each outer pocket.
The blue was perfect for not only the pockets on the back side of the outer pockets but the lining.
I used a length of ribbon I had saved from the wrapping of a sheet set. I knew it would come in handy. It works very nicely as a drawstring.
Very serviceable for a first attempt. I did not use all the notions suggested in the pattern. they had snap closures on the front and back pockets. I am not sure I would add outer pockets at all since the whole idea of the project bag is to keep your notions and yarn clean, safe, and all together. Next time I might try to add some inside pockets instead. I will have to fiddle with the idea since the inside liner is constructed in a way that does not lend itself to seamed pockets. I might have to make a welt pocket or a patch pocket on either side of the lining. Pockets are always essential in every project.
It has not been used yet in the wild but that will surely happen soon. It works just fine at home and keeps the project neat and contained.
