Halloween Knitting
The Crazy Sock lady is hosting a Spooky MAL. My sock needles were empty so I of course joined right in. During the pandemic (and before the company went out of business) I was a Knit Crate subscriber. One of the early months of the pandemic they sent bare yarn, a packet of kool aid drink mix and instructions on how to dye your own yarn at home.
I used the packet to dye a color I call Creamsicle. It has been marinating in my yarn collection ever since. It is a light orange and I thought it would be perfect for a pair of Halloween socks.
The designer Stone Knits come across my social media feeds a few months ago. She designs the cutest colorwork socks (and mittens, hats, etc). She is on Instagram and Ravelry. Her latest book is also available on Amazon. She resides in Switzerland. After seeing a few of her designs I immediately became a follower.
I am not the most enthusiastic colorwork knitter (the tangled yarn bothers something in my neatness gene), but the designs are so cute I am willing to try. I bought the pattern I'm Batty for Halloween and wound up some skeins.
Look at that I have bats on my socks! This design is charted, another yarn technique that it not my favorite. I must admit though doing charts in the round is totally better then when I have to follow them on flat knitting. Maybe I am adjusting? The black is just some Premier sock yarn I had about 40 grams left in my stash from another project. (My DD husband insists on plain old boring socks in dark colors. He claims he does not want glow in the dark or varigated neon socks - go figure). I think I should have enough to complete the bats parts. I have more than enough of the orange main color yarn. I am knitting my normal 64 stitches size. I am hoping I am not an overly tight knitter in colorwork. After a few more rounds I will put them on a longer needle and do a little try on.
It is a little more thinking knitting project than normal, but they are so darn cute I don't even mind.
