Lotus Bucket Bag -Part III & A Finish

I finally finished the newest purse- The Lotus Bucket Bag from Sewing Seeds of Love. I really like this bag and will probably make it again. The next one I believe I will use cork for the drawstring and strap. My sewing machine is a wonder, but even she balked a little bit at sewing 4 layers of faux leather together.

It did a beautiful job on sewing the drawstring. This was only 2 layers and I sewed slowly but my machine acted like it was nothing to sew through.

Another reason I selected this pattern, besides I think it is a nice looking bag, is it has grommets! I conquered the grommet phobia with my Field Bag. This bag had 12 grommets.

I practiced my grommet installation on a scrap before I went to town on the bag.

The practice piece went together with no problem. It was a little harder when I had 2 layers of home dec fabric that had woven fusible interfacing. I had my DH pound in the grommets to secure them completely.

The drawstring was feed through the grommets. My machine really did not enjoy sewing the drawstring holder (too many pieces of leather to sew together), but she did it. Threading the drawstring through the holder was not the easiest. I do really like the look of the faux leather.

This picture does not show the purse strap but gives a general idea of the bag. Below I included a picture where you can see the strap.
