Mid July Reading
Finished Table for Two by Amor Towles and The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff. Both very well written books. I also began and finished A Darker Domain by Val McDermid. The second in a series, the writing is good and the story keeps moving along at an interesting pace.
Hardcover Book
Bygone Days of Nevada Schools by Flo Reed. I try to read at least a little bit of this each week.
The Frozen River: A Novel by Ariel Lawhon. A murder mystery set in Maine in 1789.
Audio Book
Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. A true Greek tragedy filled with plenty of evil characters. We have stopped obsessing about the heat, but still too much fresco descriptions. Not sure where the editor was on this one- could have done a lot more pruning of unnecessary bits.
One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle. The main character of this book is simply dreadful, self absorbed and self centered. She begins to get it together in the last few chapters of the book, but its a little too late.
Kindle Book
The Divorcees: A Novel by Rowan Beaird. The setting is a "divorce ranch" in Reno, NV. So far at about 1/4 of the way through this is the only interesting thing in this book.
