Newest DBP Dress

My monthly goal was to not only use DBP fabrics I had in my stash but also try new patterns I own. I watched Katrina's video from Lifting Pins and Needles on construction. It made the dress extra special because of the tailoring details she adds. The pattern I used was from Sinclair patterns - Yasmin. Fabric is a lovely DBP that I cannot remember where I purchased.

A Katrina tailoring idea - adding elastic between the layers of the back bodice to help it lay flat. Spoiler alert this was not quite enough for me. In the end I thread elastic thread through the stitch and tightened the back to lay flat. The black threads are my basting stitches.

I did the hand basting of the tiniest pleats as Katrina recommended. I also added a layer of heavier duty knit fabric as the inner layer of the waist piece.

I did make a small error on the sleeves. I was watching along with Katrina's video and forgot she was making a sleeveless version and I was not. I sewed up the bodice and then just inserted the sleeves instead of sewing in the flat. It was fine because then all my seams on the bodice were enclosed inside.

I love the fabric I selected. The pattern and colors are perfect.

My next fitting issue I believe I will work on is when I add pockets trying to get them not to flare out. I will love wearing this dress.
