WIP Update

I really try not to have too many WIPS at the same time. I also like to have a variety of projects going - some that are easy and some that are more involved. Here is the state of my current WIPS.

Charity Knits

This is a helmet liner for the Christmas At Sea program. I have knit 7 inches of 2x2 ribbing and cast off (and then back on) for the hole opening. I need to knit about another 5 inches of the ribbing before beginning the decreases. The Ravelry group for Christmas at Sea has monthly make alongs. For June the selection included the helmet liner. This is a very easy enjoyable knit that is easy to place into a purse or small project bag for carrying around.

This is the Seafarer's Vest for the Christmas at Sea program. I have knit in the round until this spot where I need to cast off stitches for the armholes. This has become too large a project to easily carry around when out and about knitting in public. I am more than half way complete with this project. Maybe I can take it to a knit night and get some more finished.

Sock Knitting

I really enjoy knitting socks, especially now that I have found patterns that actually fit my feet. The issue is that as much as I enjoy knitting socks I really do not enjoy wearing many of the socks I have knit. I live in a very warm climate so no socks are worn on feet for at least 6 months of the year. In addition I am an old fashioned teacher and do not wear sneakers and socks to work. I occasionally will wear socks to school, but I tend to wear low heels. This means I have a sock drawer full of rarely worn socks. My other issue is that if i wear socks they tend to be shorties. Thanks to an internet friend I think I have finally found a sock pattern that I like and socks I can actually wear.

The other issue is that I have a tiny foot. From a 100 gram sock skein I can knit at least 2 pairs of socks and sometimes more especially when doing these shorties. I have a lot of sock yarn. I love colored socks but do not need to knit 3 pairs from each skein of sock yarn I purchase. None of my family members particularly care for hand knit socks (or they are too picky with patterns and colors).

Sweaters

I am working on two sweaters, one knit and one crochet.

This is the Peek A Boo Cardigan from MJ's Off the hook Designs. It is an open weave cropped cardigan crocheted all in one piece. I am almost finished with crocheting the arms and then it will be onto the front sections.

This is the Jeffrey Cardigan. It is an enjoyable knit but is an only at home project. The cables on the sides are an 8 row repeat. I enjoy cabling in knitting but it is usually not the best for travel knitting.

This is all the current active WIPS I have - I try to alternate projects in rotation so they each get something worked on during a week. Even after years of knitting I think I am just now figuring out what I like to knit which I suspect is garments. They take time but it is nice to be able to wear something you have knitted. Now the issue is that I just need to knit either cardigans or short sleeve sweaters. Big thick woolies are not needed in my wardrobe at this time.
