First Full week of November Reading
What a delightful audio book The Lions of Tehran by Marjan Kamali turned out to be. It was fascinating to read about how Iran changed and went backwards as far as women’s rights and freedoms from the 1970s onto today. Reading a book about not having the right or freedom to vote during this election season was especially poignant. I also finished Tumbleweeds by Leila Meacham. N0t such a great read. I did not really like any of the book characters and I thought everything was just tied up too neatly at the end.
Kindle
The Cliffs by J. Courtney Sullivan. This was a monthly selection from the Reese Witherspoon book club. I do not always follow her selections but if you are looking for a variety of books with women as lead characters you should check her book club website. The setting is Maine and it is a small amount of spooky.
Audio Book
Emperor of Rome: Ruling the Ancient Roman World by Mary Beard. The parallels she draws between the stories told of historical rulers and some modern day despots are very interesting. How much of what we think we know about the rulers of ancient Rome is historically accurate. To the victor goes the spoils including tales and stories about rulers that have fallen out of favor.
Hardcover
Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club by J. Ryan Stradal. This book is a good read about families, especially relations between mothers and daughters.
