A Finished Sock
Notice it is not plural (yet). I finished the first sock from the Stephen West Surprise sock along. This is the right sock. There is a lot of pattern in such a small object.
Toward the end I began to think oops, I might not be wearing this project. It just seemed so busy and frankly the tiniest bit chaotic for a sock. Despite a little nervous feeling I kept going. Once I cast off and put them on they passed two major tests.
First test, they actually fit! I did not do as many repeats as in the pattern in some portions. I have tiny little princess feet. As an aside maybe that is why I don't knit as many socks for my husband - his feet are too long LOL.
Second test - the pattern once it is together actually looks quite nice. It is not nearly the hot mess I thought it would be.
I would have tried for an on the foot shot but... Well if you have read this blog for any amount of time you long ago realized photography is not a strength. It is hard to get a good shot of a sock on your own foot.
I have already cast on the second or left sock. I hope there is a way to tell the difference once both are completed. Stephen West suggested marking the right sock during the making process with a special stitch marker. I am hoping he just means if you are working two at a time and not after you are wearing them.
He has already released a shawl pattern with the same name (Contrast Blast Shawl). I really do enjoy the patterns in the sock. I was already thinking how I could use the patterns in another knitted item. Thank goodness the designer already did all the hard work for me.
