Alta Dress SAL

I had such success with my KAL (knit along) that I thought I would join a SAL (sew along). Greenstyle patterns was hosting a week long SAL for their Alta sweatshirt dress pattern. I had purchased the pattern when it was first released, but had not gotten around to sewing up a version.

I went with welt pockets, which I have never done before. These were the most labor and time intensive portion of the pattern.

The completed welt pocket

I sewed very slowly and followed all the steps. My top stitching could have been a little better, but I am pleased with my first welt pockets. I am so pleased with them that I am currently working on another sewing project that also includes a welt pocket.

the attaching of the sleeve cuffs

I was very pleased with my seam matching when I was attaching the bottom band.

The dress was completed in 6 days (the welt pockets took 2 days) by sewing about 30-45 minutes or so after work each day. I wore it to work on Tuesday, It was super comfy and warm.

The fabric was a french terry I had purchased over a year or so ago from Fabricmart. I had planned to just make a simple neckband but at the last minute cut out a short funnel neck. It is not visible in the photos but the sleeves have a dart at the top of the sleeve cap which is a very nice detail.
