August First Reads

I whipped through a couple of Kindle books this week. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave, a psychological type thriller about a woman who finds out her husband has lied to her about basically everything including his name. I found the plot very far fetched, it was a very quick read (mostly read while I was getting my back to school color and cut at the beauty parlor). A Place to Hang the Moon by Kate Albus. A much better read. It is a YA book set in England during WWII and concerns 3 orphaned children. I abandoned The Frozen River: A Novel by Ariel Lawhon I found myself avoiding this book to read which is a sign that it is not an enjoyable read for me. I returned it to the library for it to find its next reader. Finished As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. I know many people enjoy his novels, but I am not one of them. Luckily this was a short one.

Hardcover Book

Bygone Days of Nevada Schools by Flo Reed. I try to read at least a little bit of this each week.

Audio Book

The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie. About halfway through listening and it is a very enjoyable listen while driving around town.

Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal. This is my listen while knitting audio book. Set in London in the Indian community. Deals with immigrants and families.

Kindle Book

The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters. A very well written debut novel. Setting is Canada and Maine and it concerns a family of Native Americans and a missing child.
