Sewing Makes that are not quite what I imagined
As much as I would love for all my sewing makes to be hits sometimes not so much :(
As part of my use up the wovens and sew Big 4 patterns from July I decided to sew this vintage dress. Years ago I made a version of this dress that was very similar. It was a favorite make and looked terrific. My new attempt was not so terrific.
One of the issues was my fabric selection. This ain't that as far as the fabric I should have used for this dress. The fabric is super cute but probably should have been used to pjs. I was getting hospital gown vibes from this make - not the look I was going for.
I also made a tie belt hoping that might improve things - nope. Still looking like a hospital gown. The other issue is the neckline. Over the years I have discovered I do not like a tight neckline up against my neck. It makes me feel like I am being choked. Sadly the neckline on this make has that design feature.
In addition I also tried the newest Patterns for pirates pattern the Dahle Daydream dress. I was unsure about the pattern because I typically feel I do not look all that great in a milkmaid dress.
I was going to make the dress but I ended up not having enough of the rib knit I selected. The fabric is from Mily Mae.
I did like the back, not too low.
The sleeve and other details were all great. All the seams are enclosed.
I might try it again because I think this one might be just a tad too large in the front area. It is quite low when worn in person. There is no flashing that occurs but it makes me a tad uncomfortable. I certainly am not able to wear it to work. I did really like many of the features of the pattern so it will go on the try it again list.
