Barbie Inspired Dress

Styla patterns was running a promotion earlier this summer to sew a Barbie inspired outfit using one of their patterns. I had a lovely hot pink rib knit I purchased months ago from Olga's Closet that was perfect for the make. I selected the Galena pattern. I thought the lines would look good and showcase the fabric.

The dress has actually grown on me. At first I was not too impressed with it actually on my body. I still think it needs something at the waist line to add interest. Also it lacks pockets - I should have inserted some when I was sewing the dress. I have worn it three times, including to a concert. It wears nicely, fits well and washes like a breeze.

Part of my issue might be that I extended the bodice too long. It is drafted for a shorter side waist than I have. I adjusted for my side waist length and I think now the bodice looks too long. The sleeve details of a banded cuff are very nice. The back neckline seems to not lay completely flat (I swear this is just a common problem for me, even in ready to wear clothes), but no one seems bothered by this except me.

The more I wear the dress the more I have grown to love and appreciate this make. My next one I will pick a patterned fabric to add some interest and definitely self draft some pockets.
