Butterflies

As a teacher I have "raised" butterflies for years with my students. I am so happy to be back in person teaching this year. My students adore learning more about butterflies and this project gives them an up close look at the life cycle of a living creature. This week all our butterflies emerged and we set them free. My students were so sweet and each said a personal goodbye to the butterflies. They were sad but I explained that is the cycle of life. It is not right to keep the butterflies in the mesh cage just for our enjoyment. Our butterflies will now help pollinate flowers.

Look closely and you can see a couple of the butterflies in the upper left corner. I purchase the caterpillars from a company based in California called Insect Lore.
