Crocheting a stole
I had some yarn left over from a failed sweater knit. The original knitted item was enjoyable with both pattern and knitting but the sweater and yarn tended to grow as it was worn. I liked the yarn color and was looking around my Ravelry library for something to use up the yarn remainders. I settled on the Delphi Stole by the pattern designer Amy Gunderson.
The yarn and pattern appear to be a perfect match. I have been crocheting along and actually I have not modified the pattern.
This picture shows the filet portion of the design. I am actually almost finished with the project.
I decided not to play yarn chicken. The original pattern called for 5 repeats of about a 20 row pattern. I was on my last ball of the yarn and still needed to complete the 4th 20 repeat and then add on the end 25 row repeat. In addition I had to do a 2 row edging around the whole shawl. It did not appear to me I could get all those stiches plus another 20 row 5th pattern repeat completed with my remainder.
Therefore I stopped the 20 row pattern repeats after only 4 times and continued on with the pattern. Currently I am crocheting the edging around the whole stole. I will have yarn left over but not enough to complete the pattern as written. I tried it on and it seems plenty long enough to wrap around myself. It has been an enjoyable crochet. I hope to have it finished and blocked within the week.
