End of June Reading
I am still on summer vacation from school so lots of reading time:) Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. This book was a slow start for me, but then I raced to the end. The story is set in Ethiopia and begins in the 1950s. The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. She is such a talented writer. A great exploration of San Francisco as a backdrop for the story. Chocolat by Joanne Harris. A lovely little book that will have you craving fine chocolates and the opportunity to move to France.
Kindle Ebook (oops, lots of my Kindle library books are all due the same time so I've been kindle reading like a maniac).
Five Children and It by Edith Nesbit. I believe this is a YA book and has been reprinted. The age of the book does show in some of the phrasing. It is a fantasy somewhat in the vein of Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. The author wrote The Railway Children series (among many others).
Fifty Words for Rain by Ashe Lemmie. The setting is post WWII Japan. It seems like this is a soap opera in novel form. The main character just has tragedy, evil characters, and pure bad luck in abundance.
Car Audio
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett. A book about the Amazon, drug companies and most importantly relationships between people. The characters all have a back story and those impact their current events, kinda like life.
Hardcover Book
A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. This is an older book and the first in a series of a female Victorian era detective novels. Final judgement is being reserved until I am further along in the reading adventure. Currently it strikes me as the premise of the book is a little far fetched.
