Fun Dinner

During Covid lockdowns I found a recipe for pretzel dogs. They soon became a family favorite. If you noticed these were on almost every Saturday night on my last month menu. Well finally in April I made it happen. They seem like they would be hard, but actually I find them quite easy. They also can get on your table in less than 2 hours, this includes the dough rise.

I used my big mixer with a dough hook to make the dough. I made this plenty of times before I got a dough hook on my big mixer. I just would knead the dough on my counter.

After this step you need to cover and place your bowl in a warm place to allow the dough to double in size. After it has doubled take the dough out of the bowl and cut it into however many pieces you have of hotdogs. The recipes calls for 8 hot dogs, but the packages I buy come with 7.

I then roll the pieces into a rope like strand and wrap around each hot dog.

You then need to prepare the water and baking soda mixture. Here is what mine looked like after the baking soda bath, they also have melted butter and kosher salt on the top.

Next place them in a preheated oven and bake. I usually serve them with a variety of mustards and ketchup. They also reheat quite well.

I was lucky to get this picture before they were devoured!
