Lemons, Lemons
A work friend was kind enough to share a few lemons from her mother's backyard tree. The lemons had not been treated in any fashion so I felt safe in using them to make lemon zest.
This is my super fancy way of obtaining lemon zest. I use a zester tool on the surface of the lemon. The zest is then placed on a piece of wax paper to dry. I usually then place the tray in my laundry room (away from prying animals and humans) and my laundry room begins to smell amazing!
After a day or two it is completely dry (remember I live in the desert Southwest with very dry conditions) I put my treasure in a jar to store. Once you have lemon zest it is amazing how many recipes call for a pinch or two.
After I zested the lemons I cut them and juiced them to make a pitcher of fresh squeezed lemonade. Summer drinking my way has arrived!
