Lunch Box - Part 2
Sew yourself a lunchbox, it will be fun they said. Actually this one went together much better than my last attempt. When we left off I had just finished attaching the rivets to hold the handles in place. After that easy task I attach both sides pieces to the exterior tops to complete the entire sides of the lunch box.
One side has a zippered pocket and the other has 2 open pockets. These pieces were set aside for a while so I could complete the very long zippered piece that will hold the entire bag together.
I have either begun to get better with practice at installing zipper pulls or I was lucky. The zipper pull went on quite easy on this zipper tape.
You are looking at the outer zipper portion of the bag. Then it was time to sew it all together. I have the most delightful workhorse of a sewing machine, but it did not like the thickness of all the seams and batting.
Little Miss Hubris over here read in the directions to cut the insulated batting layer a little smaller than the piece needed and to insert after sewing the majority of the sides together. Well I thought that seems unnecessary. I was worried the insulated layer might shift around. Where I thought it would be going I had no idea, there is no escape hatch in the bag. I should have listened to the directions. My machine sewed it together but let me know this is a one time event and not to try to pull anything like that again.
Once the sides are sewn to the zipper pull piece the directions called for binding to be attached to the seams. My machine had already told me it was not going to be sewing over those seams again so I decided a little hand sewing was in order.
I fit the fold over elastic and clipped it within an inch of its little life. Threaded the needle and began the hand sewing. The fold over elastic I purchased a few months ago from fauxleatherforyou.com. It is currently sold out but they might get more in the shop. They have a few other fold over elastics that are also very cute. I think it was the perfect choice. It gave just a little bit of stretch to fit over the seam.
The finished seams make it look extra special.
This bag will hold all the lunch I might need.
