Monthly Yarn Box
Well we all know I am in danger of running out of yarn to knit (never:). I was a loyal customer of the company Knit Crate for a few years. This was a monthly subscription yarn box. It would arrive with a skein of yarn and a few little goodies. It also always included a knit and a crochet pattern for the yarn. It was a way to try out new to me yarn bases. I thought it would be different yarn companies that dyed the yarn but that did not become a part of the kit.
The company experienced many difficulties during Covid due to shipping issues. The yarns they had milled were either arriving from South America or Italy. The company was based in Florida so once Covid shipping had started to improve the hurricanes began. I don't think they ever where able to recover. I had not been happy with them for quite a few months and in fact used my option to skip the charge and delivery for most of last year. I finally cancelled my membership at the end of November. In December the company went bankrupt so I guess I left the membership roster just in time.
Another knitter (crazy sock lady) that I follow was raving about a yarn subscription box she received. I thought I would give a truly independent dyer a chance. The company is called yarnable.com and is based in New Hampshire. It seems very popular because the wait list to join can be quite long. I was able to sign up in December. I received a DK weight yarn in a delicious color.
The extras included a small bag, bath bombs and a progress marker for 2023. I was very impressed. I can skip months if I so desire. The cost is very similar to what I was paying for knit crate but the yarn is nicer along with the extras included. I do not know yet what the January yarn will be, but on the sneak page it looks like it will be purple. I am excited to support a small business.
