My Year in Thread

I cannot remember where I originally saw this idea but I have been doing it for a few years. I save all the thread spools and cones I use in a year of sewing. At the end of the year I take a picture of them all.

It is easy to see that I use thread cones more than spools of thread. The majority of items I sew have inside seams of either white or black. No one is looking at the inside of my garments. I save the color matching thread for top stitching. Both my serger and cover stitch machine use cones of thread. I suppose technically you can use spools of thread in both machines. The only issue being you need 4 of the same color.

I always just find this very interesting. I guess it is the sewing nerd in me. Once the picture is taken all the items get tossed (except for wooden spools). I have yet to find a use for empty thread spools and cones. I start again with a fresh reboot for sewing spools in the new year.
