New Summer Dress
I bought a few yards of Eyelet Solid knit in the colorway fuchsia from Mily Mae when it was on sale. I just had to wait for the perfect dress. It would need a lining of some kind do the eyelet holes in the fabric. I finally found a match with the Summer Dress by Winter Wear Designs. The dress comes with a lot of options which is great for sewing, not so much for reading PDF directions. I find all the options can be confusing when reading the directions.
Now what would a project completed by me be without some extras. I wanted the cut out back which was okay and I do like the look. I lined the bodice. If I make the dress again I will try just the regular bodice to work a little more on fit. The directions for all the bands very confusing so I kinda winged it on that section.
The skirt also needed to be lined because of the eyelet fabric. To line the skirt I simply cut a matching size skirt (just shorter) from some knit white lining I had on hand. A trip off script for the skirt attachment.
I also went off script on the arm bands. I basted them on and then just as quickly removed them and did a simple hem. The bands looked horrible on the sleeves.
I liked the detail of "hiding" the elastic casing inside the dress, but I am not sure if the puffiness of the attached skirt is due to the casing or the double layer of fabric.
All in all I am happy with the dress and it is a wearable practice piece.
I probably will try the pattern again but not in an eyelet fabric. I will say the dress appears to look better on my person than my dress form.
