Route 66

My family recently drove a portion of Route 66 in Arizona, from Kingman to Flagstaff. We began in Kingman at the Power House (where all the Route 66 information you would ever want is located). They have erected this cute little car drive thru for photo ops.

We drove and followed the directions in a book we had purchased about all the stops on Route 66. One cute place to stop is Peach Springs. This is supposedly the inspiration for the Cars films.

Here is another bit of history you can explain - a phone booth (no it was not in working order).

We continued to drive and eventually stopped at the Walnut Canyon truss bridge. This bridge is no longer used (there were barriers up to prevent you from driving on it).

The bridge was actually part of the pre-1947 route. It probably is not safe for cars to drive on but you can walk on it just fine.

This was taken from the other side after we had walked across the bridge. You can just barely see the car in the distance.

One of the last places we stopped to stretch our legs was Twin Arrows.

One of the arrows has fallen over. The remains of the restaurant and gas pump were also visible. ThHe building shell is heavily spray painted.

We spent the night in Flagstaff (one of our favorite cities to visit) and then returned home the next day. Sometimes mini vacations are the best.
