Tshirt refashion

My school has Be Kind Mondays. Everyone is encouraged to wear a shirt to remind us to be kind. (Editorial comment: I will just leave that statement there. How wearing a tshirt to a professional place of work encourages you to be kind is a mystery to me. I am not big on wearing tshirts to work.)

Anywoo this is a tshirt I was gifted by my school a few years ago. It is not flattering, seems too large for me. I decided nothing lost or gained if I tried a refashion of it. I was not wearing it anyway, since in its original state it just hangs on me.

First step was to try it on and mark the length I wanted. Though I must have forgotten I am no longer 25 since it ended up being a little shorter than I would like. High waisted pants will fix that oops,

I put the main tshirt body aside for a few minutes. I then cut the bottom half apart so I had 2 flat pieces. I then cut those pieces into 3rds. I ended up with 6 strips.

I took 2 of the strips and cut them in half.

These were then attached to each side seam to make 2 channels. I sewed 1/4 seam allowance on each side.

The 4 remaining strips were threaded into each channel just created.

Once they were threaded I did sew the tops closed with the strips attached. When I pulled the strips to ruch the tshirt I would not be pulling out the strip.

Ppull on the ties and tie them into a nice bow.

The ties seems a little long to me. I will wear it before I cut anything else. It certainly is beginning to look a little better. I watched a few youtube videos to get some ideas. Lots of youtubers use fabric glue instead of sewing. Took about 30-40 minutes for the refashion.
