I don't collect pencils, but I have a lot
There are many things I teach in kindergarten. Handwriting and correct letter formation is just one of them. Therefore, I have a lot of pencils for my students to use. This end of the year an organization was in order.
A tri write pencil is a very large wooden pencil that is triangular in shape. This shape helps students to place their fingers in the correct position to avoid hand fatigue. Some children can have difficulty holding a large pencil. Those students can use golf pencils. These are the tiny little pencils you find at golf courses to help you keep score. The short pencil barrel can assist in getting littles to write. #2 pencils are just your old regular pencil that has been around forever.
I have more variations of all of these pencils. I could give you quite a boring lecture on correct hand position for writing and all the different types of pencils and why you use certain sizes with certain children. Also about how you need a strong core to be able to write along with fine motor control. Handwriting seems like a simple skill, but it is actually very complex.
Anywoo - I labeled the drawers using vinyl I cut on my Cricut. Hopefully now I will be able to find the correct pencil when I actually need it.
