Kathryn Top

Well this top had to be made - I have a family member with the name Kathryn!. The pattern is a PDF from Itch to Stitch pattern company. I used some mystery fabric I bought years from the remanent bin at Joanns. It is very soft and I suspect it might be a double brushed poly but not sure. I know I didn't have very much of it so needed a top requiring a small amount of yardage. I used another knit fabric I had for the lining.

This is really the first pattern I have made from the company. The directions were generally clear. I just could never figure out the facing on the lining. After a few tries and looking for youtube tutorials I still was stumped. I decided to go on without the liner facing. This was a first practice make so if it didn't work out okay. If it did I would have a wearable effort.

This seems to be a troublesome area for people who have sewed this top. I looked in the facebook group for the pattern company and there were just a few posts and almost all of them mentioned issues with the step of adding this small amount of facing to the liner fabric. At least I knew it was not just me.

After I had given up on the lining facing everything else went well. When I first looked at it after finishing I thought maybe I had made the wrong size :( When I tried it on it looked very nice and fit perfectly.

I am not sure if I will make it again. It seems to have a wide neck (or maybe that is just my sewing/pattern cutting). I dislike tops that are too wide at the top. I hate adjusting my bra straps so they don't show when wearing tops. If I make another version I will be looking for ways to lessen the width of the neck opening. I worry this might be an issue due to the front pleats.

Looks better on a person

I did wear it out in the wild. I still think the neck is too wide. To stop neck open bunching in the back I have to pull it forward so bra strap shows and then it seems a little too low cut for my tastes.
