My New to Me Coverstitch Machine

I might have mentioned it in some post at one point or another but I finally found a coverstitch machine. Now, this is not at all necessary for sewing, but.... If you sew with knit fabrics you know sometimes the hems and stitching on them can get too wavy. I would use a zigzag stitch and the correct knit needles and I would still sometimes end up with unattractive stitching.

A coverstitch machine allows you to complete professional hems just like in ready to wear. Word of warning, mine do not quite look that good yet - still learning.

I adore my Babylock serger and wanted a Babylock coverstitch. Only issue is that they stopped manufacturing just a coverstich machine a few years ago. Babylock now only sells combo machines - a serger/coverstitch machine (in addition the combo machines are way more than I paid for the serger and coverstitch individually). The sewer has to switch between functions. I knew this was going to be a giant pain to do and would make me not really enjoy either function of the machine. (Sewer know youself). The only Babylock Cover Stitch machines you can find are used.

Just before Christmas the gentleman who services my sewing machines let it be known he had a coverstich for sale. I called him right away and Merry Christmas to me I purchased it. It was actually still in the original box from the factory. The person who had originally purchased it never even opened the box to use the machine.

We have been getting to know each other ever since. It has the same great jet air threading as on all Babylock machines. I can do up to a 3 stitch hem on the machine.

Here she is in all her beauty. You can just see a 3 stitch hem on the kitty scrap fabric I was using to practice. It just makes me happy to look at her. I have already used the machine on at least 3 different projects. Each project gets a little better.

The next purchases will be some fancy feet for the serger.
