Sewing A New Bag Part 2 - A Finish

When we left off I had just sewn the front and back sides together. The directions had you covering the inside seam with binding. I really like this idea - it gives the bag a professional finish. More of the apple fabric was used to make the bias tape.

I sewed the first side all the way around the seam. You do not place the bias tape from the top of the bag to the top of the bag since you will be folding over the hem allowance.

Fold over the remaining bias tape enclosing the seam. Sew the tape down on the other side.

The only thing left was to sew in the top hem. I had earlier folded the hem allowances and ironed them to hold the crease. Just a quick top stitch sew and the bag was complete.

If I make the bag again I will lengthen the straps. I like a little longer straps for carrying a bag on my shoulders. I also need to work on matching the seams on the bottom of the bag. Next time I will baste in the seams first and check to make sure they are aligned.

It is a cute little bag. Now I must have been living life right since look at how little bias tape I had left.
