Steam Juicing

From various batches of pina colada jam and pineapple I have canned I have been saving all the cores in the freezer.

My freezer is always interesting!

Today is the day I finally decided to use my steam juicer.

Using one of these is the easiest way to get juice to make jelly (or juice to drink - it works like a charm if you want fresh cranberry juice). My DM had a steam juicer when I was a child. I remember her using it to make grape juice and tomato juice (not at the same time thank goodness).

All the frozen pineapple cores went into the top section.

I made sure there was plenty of water in the very bottom portion of the pot and put the lid in place.

Now I let the steam do all the hard work

After an hour or so you can check to see if the juice has been extracted from your fruit. After each use I make sure to rinse and dry all the components of the juicer to keep it in nice condition. All those cores made almost 4 cups of pure pineapple juice.

I will use this juice to make a batch of pineapple jelly. I have just enough juice to make one batch.
