YOP 9/53

I am finally getting back into the groove of working and still finding time for other things besides work.

Knitting

  • Finish the Naughty Sweater 7/6/23
  • Finish the sweater for my sister
  • Summer sweater knit (Vibes)
  • cardigan for me
  • Stephen West project
    • Secret Sock Along 8/12/23

  • Row and Kates project
  • Tifneilan project
  • Petite Knits project
  • Melissa K designs project

Weekly Update: The sock came out of time out and I am more than halfway through - working on clue 3 of 4- the heel.

Crochet

Weekly Update: The Mariner scarf is coming along nicely. It is a faux basketweave pattern in crochet. After looking through my yarn stash in Ravelry the name of the yarn is Carrot aka orange.

Cross stitch

  • finish Tower of London card 8/5/23
  • finish Mom project I began in 2000 (this will be the hardest to complete. I was working on this project when my mother passed away)

Weekly Update: oops, no progress on this front:(

Cricut

Weekly Update: My sister had a birthday this month so put together a shopping bag for her.

Canning (canning meals in jars)

  1. Vindaloo Curry 7/21/23
  2. pork ribs
  3. beef stew
  4. beef stroganoff in a jar (changed to canned grapes) 7/28/23
  5. corned beef & potatoes
  6. white chicken chili 7/6/23
  7. chicken gravy
  8. watermelon lemonade concentrate (originally chicken a la king) 7/10/23
  9. marinera sauce
  10. can 5 pounds of sweet potatoes
  11. pulled pork barbeque
  12. Ham-Bean soup
  13. extra: Peach jam 8/4/23

Weekly Update: We opened a jar of the Vindaloo Curry this week for a quick dinner. Both DH and I were underwhelmed - it just seemed bland to us both. I might have to add some spices to each jar as they are opened.

Sewing

Weekly Update: I completed a new purse from the Swoon Pattern Company. I quite like it. I have also made a few fabric acquisitions. If I only sewed as fast as I seem to be able to buy fabric.

I am a tiny bit annoyed with patterns makers over the past 2 weeks. I have tried 2 different patterns from 2 different companies and for various reasons they are not playing nice. The first pattern it turns out I cut out a portion of the fabric wrong (and have none left to recut). I was supposed to double fold the fabric before cutting the front. This was partially user error for not carefully reading the cutting directions, but really I think the pattern company should have done a better job of warning that this needed to occur. Folding on two cut edges is not that common in sewing and should be in large letters somewhere on the pattern. I will be tossing what I cut out because I don't have anymore of the fabric needed for the dress and the project cannot be completed based on what I have cut out. The pattern will go into a severe time out probably until next summer. I do not have unlimited sewing time during the school year. I really cannot tackle sewing projects where the pattern instructions are more than 25 pages long.

The second project, a pair of pants is also being moved to a long term time out pile. The pocket instructions for both the front and back leg pieces are very confusing. I have been struggling for hours to just try to get the pockets attached correctly. I am not the greatest sewist ever, but this is not my first sewing project. Putting pockets on pants is not that difficult - if it takes more than 4 pages to explain how you want the maker to attach the pockets it is too complicated for the average sewer. These are not a high end sewing project with linings, etc. It is a simple pair of woven pants.
